Traders.io ("the Platform", "we", "us", "our") is a forex trading education platform operated by Joey Hartman, based in the Netherlands. We can be reached at joey@traders.io.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use traders.io and related services.
2. DATA WE COLLECT
2.1 Data you provide voluntarily
- Email address — if you choose to register or join our waitlist. This is optional. You can use the platform as a guest without providing any personal data.
- Messages — if you contact us via our contact form or email.
2.2 Data collected automatically
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, time spent (via anonymised analytics, if enabled).
- Game data — battle results, win/loss ratios, coins. This is stored locally in your browser and not on our servers unless you create an account.
- Technical data — browser type, device type, IP address (for security purposes only, not stored beyond session).
2.3 Data we do NOT collect
- Financial or payment data (the platform is free)
- Government ID or KYC documentation
- Real trading account information
- Location beyond country level
3. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
We use the data we collect to:
- Provide and improve the Traders.io platform
- Send you platform updates and announcements (email only, if subscribed)
- Respond to your support requests and messages
- Maintain security and prevent abuse
- Analyse anonymous usage patterns to improve the product
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not share your data with brokers or financial institutions.
4. LEGAL BASIS (GDPR)
As we operate from the Netherlands, we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our legal basis for processing your data is:
- Consent — for email communications (you can withdraw at any time)
- Legitimate interest — for platform security and anonymous analytics

5. DATA RETENTION
We retain your email address for as long as you remain a registered user or subscriber. Game data stored in your browser (localStorage) is retained locally until you clear it yourself.
If you request deletion of your account, we will remove your email and any associated data within 30 days.
6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Traders.io uses the following third-party services:
- Twelve Data — for historical forex price data. We fetch this data to power the game charts. No personal data is shared with Twelve Data.
- GitHub Pages — for website hosting. Subject to GitHub's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts — for typography. Google may collect anonymised request data.
7. COOKIES
Traders.io currently uses minimal cookies and local storage:
- localStorage — to save your game progress (coins, win rate) in your browser. This stays on your device.
- No tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or cross-site cookies are used.
8. YOUR RIGHTS (GDPR)
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of your personal data
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from email communications at any time

9. DATA SECURITY
We take reasonable measures to protect your data. The platform is served over HTTPS. Email communications are encrypted in transit. We do not store financial data or sensitive personal information.
No system is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by GDPR.
10. CHILDREN
Traders.io is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
